### Be format agnostic

19Aug07

You can preserve the compatibility of your documents *and* avoid upgrading to the new version of Office by downloading a few filters:

- Convert between Office2007 (OpenXML) and older versions of Office using the Microsoft compatibility pack
- Convert between Office 2007 (OpenXML) and the standard Open Document format using the OpenXML/ODF converter
- Convert between Open Document and Office 2003 (or below) using Sun’s ODF plugin

Note: I don’t think that any of these filters work well with equations. I suggest continuing to use the old equation editor (pre 2007 office) because (1) there is good conversion from equation editor to OpenOffice/StarOffice, but not the other way around, and (2) the old equation editor still comes with Office 2007, so both versions can edit equations made with equation editor, but those opening equations made with Office 2007’s ribbon in older versions of office are out of luck — the math gets converted to images.
