On not working

I read a random blog post (via Reddit) about lessons learned from different jobs. One of the lessons was the following:

8. Communicable disease investigator: It takes just as much energy to look busy as it does to work. And the anxiety of being busted while on a fake phone call – no one on the other end but Debbie Dial Tone – will take years off your life.

Dude, you’re a communicable disease investigator. Work. Or quit. It’s kinda important. I’ve slacked off through my fair share of employment stints. But it wasn’t like I was an ER doctor locked in a room making fake resuscitation noises in order to avoid, er, actually resuscitating people.
